Summer heat

Base upon the little turtle, kusudama origami design by Tomoko Fuse.

Summer has really only just started here in Australia but it is already piping hot. Yesterday I started a new art object and it is a bit different from my usual minimal style. I’ve always been inspired by the amazing things that can be done with paper folding so here is hopeful what will be the first of many origami inspired items. Now the opening on my version are longer than what you would find in origami but I’ve never been interested in just copying what has already been done, because where is the fun in that?

Now let me tell you that each part takes around two hours to make and I’ve done eight so far so am up to about 16 hours of work. And just like my baubles it will need 20 sections. part of the time is because of the pattern work, as it requires a bit more attention to detail as every few rows something in the pattern changes. it also took me a few attempts to design the pattern on the face as it was hard to get right on the computer screen. So eventually I made the first part as I designed it. Given that the graph on the computer is one flat graph and you can’t contour the graph to the pattern I had to design it as I went and add in beads off to the side to indicate where the corner beads would be placed. Now that I’ve done it once and have figured out where I can place everything to indicate my decreases it will be a lot easer to design patters without having to make them at the same time, making it easer to make more complex designs.

Mum is home from her travels to Brisbane so we spent some time catching up and she got a sneak peek at my WIP, she loves the colours which is always good to hear. On the Christmas front I’ve got five more presents to go. YAY! haha. had better get a move on with that.

Well once again its getting late so I shall catch ya next time, Lou.
